X-M SATELLITE RADIO: CANADA DAY INACTIVITY ADDENDUM

I just remembered that X-M Satellite Radio is starting to broadcast a Just for Laughs clip show on Laugh Attack channel 153. I have been writing for the show for the last couple of months. It's hosted by Joey Elias and is naturally chock full of world-class stand-ups from Canada, America and beyond (which means UK and Australia).

First broadcast is on Canada Day at oh for crying out loud I don't even know what time. Check local listings. Does satellite radio have local listings? Maybe the Just for Laughs website would have specific info (www.hahaha.com).

So now you have a heads-up and a little scavenger hunt! Enjoy!
CANADA DAY INACTIVITY

I had a fantastic trip to Toronto, with lots of fun times on and off-stage.

I'm taking this weekend off, before the coming onslaught of spots leading to Just for Laughs.

Most of the shows will be at the Comedyworks over the next little while. I'll be doing spots:

July 6-8 (Thursday to Saturday), and probably the following weekend as well, although probably not that whole weekend.

The big shows will be at the Comedynest during JFL's Comedy Night in Canada, where I'll be on July 19, 21 and the 22nd.

Then one more weekend at the Works on July 27-29 for post-fest ramble off the rails about whatever I want (now that the "festival set" is in the can).

All this plus regular appearances with On the Spot on Tues. and Wed. and Monday open mikes, all of which take place at the Comedyworks.

When specific dates and times are nailed down I'll probably re-post this info in a slightly more coherent, organized format.

Now to go enjoy the first night of "comedy retreat weekend".

FRINGE IS OVER, WHAT NEXT?

Well, I got to do some stand-up last night for the first time in a while. Now I'm off to Toronto. For a detailed itinerary check under "upcoming gigs" at the other website where I rattle on about myself.

June is cool.

NEVER SURRENDER CENTAUR CENTAUR CENTAUR REVIEW COPIED HERE MORE OR LESS AS IT WAS INTENDED

Which is to say that besides nice write-ups in the Hour and the Mirror, there is one glowing review from French newspaper La Presse which I decided to present here as translated by the ever-literal Babelfish website. Pleasant to read, and its spirit is relatively intact (although it is fun to imagine "The Hand" is not a translation of "the Main" [aka St. Laurent] street but rather a criminal network of evil ninjas).

TO LOSE THE HEAD WITH THE FRINGE FESTIVAL

Sylvie St-Jacques The Press

It is known that the season of the festivals is launched, when the walkers of the downtown area, cream-frozen with the hand, seem all reached of the same deficit of attention. Question of taking again its spirits between two spectacles of Francos, a beer pre-aperitif jug and the agitations of the match Portugal-Angola, some stopovers in Fringe are essential. While on the Hand, the Portuguese exubérance was with the rise, the pros of the lypsinc of the trio Never Surrender proved to the public of Mainline Theater which a parody of Jump of Van Halen was quite as favourable with is delirious as a goal of Pedro Pauleta. Twisting, quétaine, ridiculous, useless, brilliant... The epithets miss to us to summarize Centaur! Centaur! Centaur!, last "part" of these three anglophone puppets which saw too many bad videos clip in their youth. Since it is needed, let us summarize. The action proceeds during the European round of Never Surrender, which achieves its mission of spreading the joy and the taste

for the reading. In Sweden, the valorous trio faces unpleasant Centaur which wants to prevent the population from reading. For these jolly fellows, this absurd history is only pretext to carry out its interpretations in "lypsinc" greater success of Queen or Billy Ocean. Keep besides with the spirit that all the dialogues of Centaur! Centaur! Centaur! are preregistered. Personally, I had still badly with the jaws the following day. You will be warned. At the exit of the spectacle of Never Surrender, the Hand was occupied by enthusiastic supporters of Portugal, which deployed the flags and the blows of horn to mean their happiness.

So there you have it. You'll have bad with the jaws, but it'll mean your happiness. Go see the play.

SO FAR SO GOOD AT "NEVER SURRENDER: CENTAUR, CENTAUR, CENTAUR"

Not that there haven't been technical mishaps, especially at Monday's show. I don't know if I even want to mention it specifically until the run's over, 'cause that's like acknowledging the danger is past, and maybe that'll jinx it into happening again, but maybe just hinting at it's already doing damage, so actually forget it, EVERYTHING'S GOING SMOOTH AS CAN BE, no problems.

In every way that counts, the shows are doing great. Audiences seem happy. There have even been little kids showing up, which I'm not used to (not a lot of babies come out for late show Friday at the stand-up shows, unless they're props, but those haven't been as funny to watch since the smoking ban).

Three down, three to go. Next one, midnight tonight!

OPENING NIGHT!!!

Can't believe it's already here. The ludicrous fringe play whose promo picture I'm posting again just for the heck of it. I'm looking forward to it despite scary events leading up to it, including my inadvertantly destroying our main prop/special effect during tech rehearsal, or my breaking another prop during another rehearsal. Basically I'm a rather manic character in the play.

Still, the Never Surrender lip synch band remain undeterred by set-backs, maintaining a hard-and-fast "show must go on" attitude that knows no fear.

Best part: if I forget my lines, the (all-pre-recorded) script will just plow forward anyway, so no awkward pauses!

All in all I'm grateful for this fine opportunity to perform legitimate thee-ater. In light of the damage I did to our main prop, no one tell me to break a leg. Been there. Done that.

Very excited.

MYSPACE THE FINAL FRONTIER

Haven't posted in a while a)because this blogger service was down for a bit but mainly b) because I've been exploring the next step in "in" networking and finally opened up a myspace account, which you can check out at:

Much thanks to my friends helping me adjust to the scary cybermeat-market that is myspace. Particularly Tom, who remains my oldest friend (on the account). Thanks for being there, old friend.
